Dr. Alfonso is a community psychiatrist who has built his career in the most demanding clinical environments: street psychiatry, transcultural psychiatry, and the care of adults with intellectual disabilities. His interest in adult ADHD began during his medical training at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, and years with the most complex patients have since trained him to recognise it precisely where it usually goes unnoticed: masked by comorbidity, trauma, or years of misdiagnosis. That same interest shapes how he practises today, combining precise medical treatment with a genuine understanding of each patient's life, history and circumstances, grounded in his four-year training in systemic and family psychotherapy. The same rigour runs through his research: five years as a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in immunopsychiatry now nearing completion at the University of Barcelona.
